Excited to Join the Writing Team for While the Men Are Away!
May 1, 2022Thrilled to share that I’m part of the writing team for While the Men Are Away, a queer, revisionist historical dramedy for SBS. Set in 1940s rural Australia, the series explores a fascinating period when those traditionally excluded from power—women, LGBTQ+ people, and people of color—were suddenly running the show while the men were off fighting in WWII.
Created by Alexandra Burke (Sissy), Kim Wilson (Wentworth), and Monica Zanetti (Ellie and Abbie (& Ellie’s Dead Aunt)), this 8 x 30 series follows two Women’s Land Army recruits from Sydney as they learn about farming, race relations, rural politics, sex, spirituality, and personal growth in a world turned upside down.
It’s an honor to collaborate with such an incredible team of writers, including Jada Alberts (Cleverman), Magda Wozniak (Bad Behaviour), Enoch Mailangi (All My Friends Are Racist), and Monica Zanetti, under the guidance of producers Lisa Shaunessy (Sissy) and the talented crew at Arcadia.
I can’t wait to see this project come to life and share its humor, heart, and powerful stories with audiences.
